We have a special topic this month. We decided to focus on perspective from a spouse of a person who works for the company. Colin, the fiancée of Recruit Action Partner Kristyn Oleskewycz, met three years before Kristyn began working there. So he’s witnessed first-hand how Recruit Action has impacted her life and his.
Colin and Kristyn were in their early twenties and beginning their careers when they met through a friend. Kristyn was fresh out of school and eager to gain recruiting experience, so she committed to working for a year in a temporary position at Recruit Action. But before long, one year grew into seven that culminated into a unique opportunity for her to be a Partner. Colin feels her desire to be an Associate doesn’t stem solely from career ambition—but rather an element of the company that Domenic and Francois worked tirelessly to build: genuine human connection. “From the beginning, they were accessible and eager to help her learn, and I believe their approach contributed to her drive to want to be a Partner.” In addition, the human-centered culture that Domenic and Francois established and worked hard to maintain has left a lasting impression on the couple.
Recruit Action opened Colin’s eyes to the value of businesses that build healthy employee relationships. He’s always worked for companies with 100 plus employees where workers feel more like a number than a person. He believes, “Large companies have a difficult time building a ‘family’ environment like the one Domenic and Francois have created.” Cultivating genuine relationships where a person is valued and celebrated is an intrinsic part of Recruit Action’s daily operation. Colin sees first-hand how events and activities outside the office prove the company’s commitment is real. He stated, “my company only has one annual holiday event a year while Recruit Action has year-round events that are consistently bringing the employees together outside of the office.” Ultimately, Colin’s close relationship with Kristyn has made him realize that the Recruit Action work environment is one he also wants.
Human beings long for connection. Feeling a part of something bigger than ourselves is a part of our DNA and contributes to our well-being. Recruit Action’s culture has made both Kristyn and Colin feel a part of the family. Colin’s often included in company events and has attended home-cooked meals at the homes of some of Kristyn’s colleagues. “I honestly think that the positive energy we pull from our work is from Recruit Action,” says Colin. This impact on their relationship provides a long-term positive benefit that most people don’t recognize or understand that they can derive from their job. Colin feels the pandemic has created a situation where people realize their work lacks elements they often don’t take time to consider how they can change their lives for the better. It’s crucial to think about all factors contributing to your overall well-being because your job is a significant part of your life.
