What Tahmina Turkmani loves most about working in customer service is connecting with people. “I enjoy helping people and solving their problems. I put myself in their shoes and try to understand them,” says Tahmina. She has worked in customer service since she finished high school in Quebec, with positions at Rogers Communications for five years and Sunwing Travel Group for several years. Tahmina appreciates the interpersonal relationships and skills she has developed throughout her career in customer service. “I’ve gained many good qualities through my jobs, such as patience and understanding. I wasn’t the calmest person before starting this career path, so I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow,” says Tahmina.
Tahmina was born in Afghanistan but lived in Pakistan for most of her childhood due to the war. In 2001, at seven years old, Tahmina immigrated with her family to Quebec. “When I moved here, I lived in Sherbrooke and Laval. Now, I live with my husband in Brossard. Quebec is home for me,” explains Tahmina. For Tahmina, setting down roots and building community is essential in her personal and professional life.
When Recruit Action’s Annie Trudel contacted Tahmina regarding a job she applied for on LinkedIn, Annie’s receptiveness impressed her. “When I spoke with Annie at the start of the job process, I expressed my desire to have a permanent job rather than a short-term contract. If I like the work environment and the people, I want to stay with that company for years and grow with them. Annie really listened to me and helped me achieve my aspirations,” says Tahmina.
Recruit Action was Tahmina’s first experience working with a recruitment agency; she found the experience streamlined and positive. “I had a great experience with Annie. She was so sweet and always had a smile on her face every time we talked. Of all the job interviews I have done in the past, she was the most attentive and thoughtful,” says Tahmina. She appreciated the open communication Annie offered during the recruitment process. “Annie said to me, ‘If you need anything, I’m always here for you,’ and she was. Whenever I needed to call her, she would answer enthusiastically and provide all the required information,” says Tahmina.
Tahmina started her new job with the insurance and financial services company Manulife in January, where she works in customer service, taking calls and providing support for insurance claims. “On our first day of training, they highlighted the potential to stay with the company long term if we worked well and enjoyed the role. I was delighted when I heard that.”
