Change is a constant in life. No matter how hard we try to fight it, change always wins. The past two years have been marked by unforeseen adjustments, pushing individuals to the limits of their physical and emotional well-being. And despite our best efforts to accelerate vaccine development, impose restrictions to protect collective health, and create relief programs, the unpredictability of the future persists. But we shouldn’t fear what might happen. Rather, we should learn to accept it, adapt to it, and improve upon it.
Founded a year after the 2008 global financial crisis, Recruit Action is no stranger to uncertainty. The adversity that founding partner François Paiement faced in the company’s first year taught him that life becomes increasingly difficult when we fail to embrace change, whether in our work or personal lives. Over the past decade, the Recruit Action team has transformed to offer unwavering support to countless businesses and candidates. The organization’s commitment to helping its clients thrive in unexpected circumstances has never ceased.
Recruit Action’s partners have worked hard to instill a team ethos based on the idea that how you handle change determines your success. The company reinforces this notion with every challenge it faces. For example, like most companies, Recruit Action had to adapt to remote work during the pandemic. According to a recent study conducted by Qualtrics, SAP, and Mind Share Partners, 44% of employees surveyed who had to work from home reported that their mental health had significantly deteriorated. However, Recruit Action’s partners understood the potential impact of remote work and wasted no time implementing a creative solution.
Partner Domenic Calcara asked his personal trainer, Tom Begue, if he would design a virtual fitness session for Recruit Action employees. Domenic believed that a consistent group exercise program could improve morale, foster team cohesion, and strengthen his employees’ physical and mental well-being. Tom Begue loved the idea and quickly got to work designing a stimulating exercise program for the team. Partners François and Kristyn also embraced Domenic’s idea. For François, “every contact we had with the employee was about work, and we needed to find a new way to interact with them.”
Although virtual challenges complicated the initial sessions, the plan was a resounding success. Recruit Action employees immediately embraced their bi-weekly group workouts, and the experience helped solidify group morale, despite the isolation. For Kristyn, the solution showed that “no matter how busy we are, we should always take the time to give ourselves a mental break.” So, when summer arrived, the partners decided to take a break and see if the team would like to resume the program the following fall. The answer was a resounding “Yes!” The team embraced the strategy and had fun working to become stronger both physically and mentally, together.
The renowned Russian author Leo Tolstoy once said, “True life is lived only when tiny changes occur.” Tolstoy’s life was full of unexpected and traumatic events, which shaped his work and the way he lived his life. We can all overcome the occasional fork in the road when we recognize that change is inevitable. The job seekers Recruit Action supports fear job changes, loss of security, rejection, and regret. But we can mitigate the stress and anxiety associated with uncertainty by learning to accept, adapt, and improve upon a situation. The Recruit Action team had to respect the restricted work environment, adapt to distance, and find a way to strengthen their connections despite the limitations imposed by the pandemic. But throughout the process, Recruit Action’s partners have strived to provide consistent support and implement creative measures to achieve the desired results. Whether you’re looking for a job, changing jobs, or struggling with change anxiety, don’t hesitate to contact Recruit Action to find out how our experienced team can provide you with personalized support to prepare you for whatever lies ahead.
